The Book of Daniel provides a prophetic look at all of history from his time until the time of the end. Although there are several "separate" prophecies, they all are about the same series of events DUE TO DISOBEDIENCE GOD SCATTERED THE HEBREW PEOPLE AND ALLOWED THE BABYLONIAN KING TO TAKE THEM INTO CAPTIVITY FOR 70 YEARS, THIS HAPPENED IN 605 BC. GOD HAD SENT PROPHETS TO WARN THE PEOPLE OF HIS COMING JUDGEMENT AGAINST THEM BECAUSE OF THEIR DISOBEDIENCE. Proof of God’s warning of scattering to the Nation of Israel Neh 1 v 8 “ If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations, but if you return to me, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my name”. Deut 4 v 27 “ The Lord will scatter you among the people and only a few of you will survive. Written 1406BC Zach 10 v 9 “ Though I scatter them among the people, yet in distant lands they will remember me”. THE PEOPLE DID NOT TAKE THE WARNINGS SERIOUSLY UNTIL THE BABYLONIAN KING MARCHED AGAINST THEM AND TOOK THEM CAPTIVE. The great Babylonian Empire was the most grandiose of all the kingdoms that were to follow. Its splendor, its greatness, and its glory have never been equaled. Others were more powerful and stronger, but they were never equaled in relation to the grand design of Babylon. Hence, the head of gold was used in describing Nebuchadnezzar’s kingdom. The city of Babylon, which was the capital of this empire, was an ancient walled city between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. The leading citizens of the nation of Judah were carried to this city as captives about 605 B.C. after Jerusalem fell to the invading Babylonians. The ancient capital of the Babylonian people was the scene of the first rebellion against God and it has often been portrayed as a source of paganism, idolatry and sin. UNDER THE RULE OF THE BABYLONIAN KING NEBUCHADNEZZAR WHO CAME INTO RULE IN BABYLON 605 BC, THE PEOPLE WERE TAKEN INTO CAPTIVITY SEPTEMBER OF THAT SAME YEAR, MANY WERE REMOVED FROM JERUSALEM AND EXILED INTO BABYLON. IT WAS DURING THAT TIME THAT A YOUNG 15 YEAR OLD JEWISH BOY NAMED DANIEL, WHO WAS ONE OF THE CAPTIVES HAD BEEN PLACED INTO THE KING’S COURT WITH THREE OF HIS OTHER HEBREW FRIENDS. DANIEL REMAINED FAITHFUL TO HIS GOD WHILE IN THE KING’S COURT AND GOD GAVE HIM FAVOR AND GREAT WISDOM AND THE ABILITY TO INTERPRET DREAMS WHICH THE KING ON OCCASION HAD. The following is an account of the King’s dream. GOD HAD GIVEN NEBUCHADNEZZAR A DREAM SHOWING THE WORLD KINGDOMS FROM HIS TIME DOWN TO THE VERY END OF THE AGES TILL CHRIST RETURNS. NOT KNOWING WHAT THE DREAM MEANT (IT WAS ONLY IN THE FORM OF A GREAT STATUE) THE KING REQUIRED HIS WISE MEN TO INTERPRET THE DREAM FOR HIM OR THEY WOULD BE KILLED. NO ONE COULD INTERPRET THE DREAM, SO THE MAGICIANS RECALLED THAT THE YOUNG HEBREW BOY DANIEL COULD INTERPRET DREAMS AND SO DANIEL WAS CALLED. THE KING DID NOT TELL THEM THE DREAM WAS OF A STATUE, HE SIMPLY REQUIRED THEM TO TELL HIM WHAT HE HAD DREAMT. NO ONE BUT THE GOD OF THE BIBLE COULD KNOW WHAT THIS DREAM WAS SO DANIEL PRAYED TO HIS GOD WHO GAVE HIM THE DREAM AND THE MEANING. KING NEBUCHADNEZZAR’S DREAM: THE KING DREMPT HE SAW A GREAT STATUE OF A MAN WITH THE HEAD OF GOLD, CHEST AND ARMS OF SILVER; STOMACH AND THIGHS OF BRASS; TWO LEGS OF IRON MIXED WITH CLAY AND 10 TOES . HEAD OF GOLD- BABYLON 606 BC-539 BC approx 70 years CHEST AND ARMS OF SILVER- MEADS AND PERSIANS 539 – 331 BC 208 years STOMACH AND THIGHS OF BRASS- GREECE EMPIRE 331 – 146 BC TWO LEGS OF IRON MIXED WITH CLAY- ROME 146 BC- AD 476 622 years 10 TOES - REVIVED ROMAN EMPIRE
