This is a book about the revealing of Jesus Christ to the world. The Revelation is a book about the future and about the present. It offers future hope to all believers especially those who have suffered for their faith. It gives present guidance of Jesus and how we should live for him now. Through graphic pictures we learn that: A. Jesus is coming again. B. Evil will be judged. C. The dead will rise to judgment resulting in eternal life or eternal destruction. John was the author of Revelation. He was one of the original 12 disciples. He also wrote the gospel of John and letters of John, 1, 2, 3. When he wrote Revelation, John was in exile on the island of Patmos. Rev 1 verse 9 Patmos was a small rocky island in the Aegean Sea, about 50 miles from the city of Ephesus. The Christian church was facing great persecution. Almost all believers were socially, politically and economically suffering because of the empire’s wide persecution and some were even being killed for their faith. John was exiled because he refused to stop preaching the gospel. Rev 1 verse 1-2 John was an eyewitness to Jesus Christ, he now has a vision of the glorious Christ, Rev 1 verse 8 so he recognized him because he knew him personally. God revealed to John what would take place in the future. Rev 1 verse 1 he revealed to him the coming judgment and the ultimate triumph of good over evil. Key verses: Rev 1 verse 3 blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it because the time is near. Simply put: There is a blessing to us even today who read this book!!!! Why is this book not being read easily? If there is a blessing for those who read it, ask yourself would god promise us a blessing yet not want us to read it and understand! John begin by explaining how he received the revelation and that it was from God. Rev 1 verse 17 then he records specific messages from Jesus to the 7 churches in Asia (Turkey) Rev 1 verse 4-6. Suddenly John is caught up into heaven, Rev 4 verse 1-2 and the scene shifts as a mosaic of dramatic and majestic images burst into view before his eyes. These series of visions show 1. The future rise of evil 2. The Anti-Christ. 3. The triumph of the king of kings. 4. The coming of the new Jerusalem. It concludes with the promise of Christ’s soon return to the earth. It is a wonderful panorama of God’s plan. Listen as Christ warns the churches and examine your life to root out any sin that blocks your relationship with him. Be full of hope knowing that God is in control and Christ’s victory is assured. 7 stars= angels of the 7 churches ( Rev 1 v 20) 7 lampstands = 7 churches THE APPEARANCE: “SON OF MAN” Jesus white robe and golden sash Hair- like wool, white as wool as white as snow Rev 1 verse 14 Eyes- like blazing fire Rev 1 v 14 Feet – like bronze glowing in a furnace verse 15 Voice – like the sound of rushing water verse 15 Out of his mouth- came a sharp double edged sword verse 16 Face – was like the sun shining in all it brilliance verse 16 NOTICE: JOHN SAYS “AND WHEN I TURNED I SAW 7 GOLDEN LAMPSTANDS = 7 CHURCHES – Notice Jesus is AMONG THE Lamp stands V 13 “and among the lampstand was someone like the Son of Man. That is telling us that throughout the dispensation of the Church Age Jesus is always among the church. IF JESUS IS THEREFORE AMONG THE CHURCH AND YOU ARE TRULY A PART OF THE CHURCH, THEN JESUS IS AMONG YOU. Remember he did say “ I will never leave you, nor forsake you”. THAT’S SOME ASSURANCE!
