How can we be held guilty for something Adam did thousands of years ago?  

Many feel this isn’t right for God to judge us because of Adam’s sin. Yet each of us confirms our solidarity with Adam by our own sin each day. We are made of the same stuff and prone to rebel, and we are judged for the sins we commit in our bodies, our thoughts, and our actions. PSALM 51 V 6.

Because we are sinners, it is not fairness we need it is MERCY. Romans 5v13 &14, Paul is saying here that the Keeping of the Law of God DOES NOT bring Salvation- The LAW was added to HELP PEOPLE SEE THEIR SINFULNESS. Breaking the law is NOT what brings DEATH, DEATH is a RESULT of Adam’s sin and the sins we ALL commit, even if our sins do not resemble Adam’s.

Paul reminds his readers that for thousands of years the Law had not yet been explicitly given, yet people DIED. Romans 5 v 12 “ Therefore Just as SIN entered the world through one man, and DEATH through SIN, and in this way DEATH CAME TO ALL MEN BECAUSE ALL SINNED.”  Before the LAW was given, sin was in the world – Romans 3 v 23 FOR ALL HAVE SINNED AND FALLEN SHORT OF GOD’S GLORY. Romans 3 v 10 “There is no one righteous, NO NOT EVEN ONE.” Romans 6 v 23 FOR “THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH, BUT THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD.”

The LAW was added to help people see their sinfulness and show them the seriousness of their offense and to drive them to God for MERCY and PARDON. Sin is a deep discrepancy between who we are and who we were created to be.

The law points out our sin and places the responsibility squarely on our shoulders. Romans 3 v 19 & 20. But the law offers no remedy.

When we are convicted of sin we turn to Jesus Christ because he is the only way due to his journey to the cross (see Romans 3 v 21.) Without Jesus Christ, there is NO pathway to a HOLY GOD. The cross with Jesus’ life being offered is a BRIDGE BETWEEN MAN       GOD.

God will accept NO ONE OTHER than his own self in the form of JESUS, the GOD/MAN to take our place in death to make us worthy.  When we accept Jesus as this substitute for OUR death we accept GOD himself. When we accept Jesus as our substitute we are covered by his blood.
