CHAPTER 19

1.      You will notice in this chapter a hallelujah praise and testimony service in heaven. What six events created it?

2.      For 2000 years, prayers have been offered and is about to be answered Do you know what that prayer is.

3.      Where does the marriage ceremony of the lamb and his bride occur?

4.      From what material is the wedding gown made and what does the term Righteousnesses mean concerning the actual manufacturing of this beautiful garments?

5.      Who are the guests at Christ wedding?

6.      Where does the marriage supper take place?

7.      What foolish act did the apostle John commit in this chapter?

8.      Should angels or saints be worshipped?

9.      You have heard of the term Revelation! What does it really mean?

10.  What breathtaking sign accompanies Christ return?

11.  There are two doors open in this chapter. What do they signify?

12.  Who composes heaven’s armies at Christ coming?

13.  There is a supper of the great God. What is it?

14.  A number that we are all familiar with 666, what happens to the one who perpetrates this logo?

Chapter 19 is exhilarating because it begins with the angels singing a heavenly chorus ‘hallelujah’ which is Hebrew word meaning praise Jehovah or praise the Lord!

Chapter 19 contains the only contained the only mention of the term in the New Testament and you will find it four different times  in the following six verses.

Verse 1. “And after these thing…..” John says after these things! After what things? After the destruction of Religious and Political Babylon, and then what? Then he hears the tremendous sound of a multitude of praise and testimony meeting in heaven. Probably led by the martyred saints of the tribulation hour in chapter 7 v 9. This group eventually consists of all the redeemed in glory . They are praising because”

1.                              Evil has run its course.

2.                              The tribulation hour is concluding.

3.                              Christ is preparing to return with his saints.

4.                              The armies of the world are about to be demolished.

5.                              Sword will then be made into plough shares and spears into pruning hooks.

6.                              Christ will soon establish his millennium kingdom upon the earth. Such good news would many anyone shout…praise the Lord!!

The reason this praise is  directed to the one whose attributes are:

1. Salvation; 2. Glory; 3. Honor; 4. Power   is revealed in the next verse.

Verse 2 “ for true and righteous are……” We immediately recognize that this statement is referring to the completed judgments of chapters 17 and 18.

Verse 3 “ and again they said…..” This is repeated as God’s people acknowledges the fact that Babylon’s doom is eternal. Never again will religious or political alliances bring men into bondage. Never again will man be duped, deluded or destroyed through pompous ceremonialism. No, Babylon smoke ascends up for ages and ages, forever and forever.

Verse 4.. “ and the four and twenty …..” At this point the 24 elders, those who we observed  casting their trophies or crowns at Jesus feet following the rapture of the church and judgment seat of Christ in chapter 4, join the praise session. The world system that so harassed and persecuted them has finally been judged. The four beasts, identified as Cherubim and Seraphim in chapter 4, also lends their voices in glorifying God. They are rejoicing over the fact that they did not follow Lucifer the head angel, as so many of their group did when he rebelled against the Almighty Isaiah 14 v 12 – 14. Now they are eternally secure, where as the fallen angels are everlastingly damned.

Verse 5 “ and a voice came out of the …….” This voice is undoubtedly an angel, encouraging the heavenly hosts to continue the praise session.  He is the celestial Cheer Leader at one of heavens most momentous and climatic hours.

Verse 6 “ and I heard as it were …….” This the final chorus as all heaven joins together in song. The multitudinous voices resound so loudly that the roar is likened to the sound of many waters and mighty thundering. The prayer of the ages  “Thy Kingdom Come” as spoken by billions upon billions throughout the centuries is about to be answered. Thus “praise Jehovah, for the Lord God omnipotent soon reigns.”

Verses 7 & 8 ‘let us be glad and rejoice…….” At the hour of Christ return to the earth with his bride the church, his honeymoon last for “One Thousand years” This is further proof that the rapture is a pre-tribulational event. The marriage of the Lamb takes place in Heaven, NOT on earth. The bride prepares herself at the judgment seat of Christ must also take place in Heaven before the lamb. These are time consuming events. Then she returns with her lover the Lord Jesus Christ FROM heaven… AFTER the marriage, to the honeymoon, they travel to their honeymoon destination – ‘EARTH’ The Savior is the bridegroom, because he is the lamb of God who taketh away the sins of the world. John 1 v 29.

The marriage partners at this glorious event includes the lamb, and his bride the church. Where have they been during the tribulation hour?  depicted in chapter 16-18 . HEAVEN!!!!   The church was raptured in Rev 4 v 1, and has not been mentioned again until THIS point.

Please consider that this time is a time of preparation for the WEDDING.  During the seven years that earth dwellers suffered judgment from heaven, the bride was being investigated in heaven, 2nd Corinthians 5 v 10, 2nd Corinthians 11 v 2. For many were unfaithful to Christ during the “engagement period” which is really their years of service while they were on earth, this wedding investigation will be a time of extreme humiliation. 1st John 2 v 28, since we are engaged to Christ from the time of our conversion up until the moment of the rapture, God commands that we live consistently holy lives,  1st Peter 1 v 16. Then immediately after we are called home in a twinkle of an eye, the pre-maritial examination concerning our faithfulness as his “sweethearts” begins.

Today’s signs  definitely indicate that the hour is near. Child of God live victoriously. Every believer will be attired in the wedding garment he or she made upon earth. The material will be compose of the “good works” remaining after the judgment seat has occurred.

Some may ask “doesn’t the bible teach that the believer is clothed in the righteousness of Christ. 2nd Corinthians 5 v 21, Definitely this is how one become a Christian in the first place. However the “Word  Righteousness,” in the original Greek of verse 8 in this chapter, is not singular. It is not righteousness based upon Christ work but RIGHTEOUNESSES, based upon the believers life and deeds upon earth. At the judgment seat of Christ 2nd Cor 5 v 10, every work good or bad will be investigated, then those works will be placed in the fires of testing 1st Cor 3 v 13-16 These two texts just mentioned described the preparation of the bride of Christ, all Christians for the wedding of the marriage of the lamb. Clearly the wedding gown is composed of the believers righteousnesses, their good works, performed on earth in honor of their “lover” of the soul. Now we should stop to examine our lives and answer the question “what would I have, what would my wedding gown picture”. How important is it to live for Christ and to give him your very. 2nd  peter 1 v 1.

Verse 9 “ and he said unto me blessed…..” This verse shows that the marriage of the lamb will include a reception, with many guests invited.

Please note that the bride and the bridegroom are never guests. They are the ones to whom the ceremony is performed. Who then are those in attendance at the marriage supper? The guests include all believers up to Pentecost as well as the Tribulation Saints. John, the disciple Jesus loved, John 19 v 26, and the one who wrote the book of Revelation said “He that hath a bride is the bridegroom, but the friend of the bridegroom which standeth and heareth him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. This my joy therefore is fulfilled. John 3 v 29. No wonder our text states blessed are those who are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb.

The bride is composed of ALL believers who became members of the body of Christ from the day of Pentecost to the Rapture. Now we find that the guest are those who trusted in the Lord Prior to Pentecost or Following the Rapture. Since the marriage takes place in heaven, and the old testament and Tribulation believers are part of the earthly group, their only hope of participating in this event of the ages is that the wedding reception and marriage supper takes place on earth. The is exactly what happens, the fact that the marriage takes place in heaven, and the supper takes place on earth, is beautifully portrayed by the parable of the ten virgins. Matt 25 v 1-13. Notice that verse 6 of this parable states “behold the bridegroom cometh go ye out to meet him.” The reason that the emphasis is on the bridegroom instead of the bride, is because the Lord Jesus is all in all. Even John said this in  Rev 19 v 7. Believers members of the bride, must always remember that the glory is His!!! He redeemed us. We did nothing. Were it not for JESUS. Each text then explains the marriage, the supper the guest and the location.

Verse 10.  “ and I fell at his feet ……” If there were any portion of the book of revelation John would have like to omit this would be the verse. He became so enamored with this angel delivering the message that he fell before him as if to worship  him a created being. Such recording of human weakness even proves that God wrote the bible, as man would certainly have omitted his mistakes. God however records them to show the world that ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God, Romans 3 v 23. As John bowed his knees to this created being, the angel cried “don’t do it” Angles are but ministering spirits sent forth   to minister for them who shall be heirs to salvation. Hebrews 1 v 14. The angel tells him to get up, he tells him he is a servant of God just like John is. John has just learnt an important lesson. Beware of any religion that honors and revere angels, such practice is wrong. Colossians 2 v 18. Even the angel in our text is clearly saying “worship God” Thus it is obvious we are not to worship, men, women, angels or idols, Exodus 20 v 4 & 5.

Chapter 19 Verses 11-16 “ and I saw…” These verses graphically portrays the coming of Christ to the earth, it is called the revelation among theologians because this is the time the Lord reveals himself to the earth. The same scene was observed in chapter 11 v 15 as well, remember chapters 12 – 19 simply repeat the material presented in chapters 6 –11. For centuries the world have scoffed at this they say “ where is the promise of his coming?’ 2nd Peter 3 v 4.

Now the mocking abruptly ceases, why? Breathtaking signs accompany the one who sits on this white horse as He comes to judge and make war upon the world. Matt 24 v 29-32 states “and immediately ……..” The scene before us is a literal event because John sees heaven open. Heaven’s door is open twice in the book of Revelation, chapter 4 v 1 and now in chapter 19 v 11. Chapter 4 pictured the rapture, chapter 19 picture the revelation. The door was opened in chapter 4 to receive the saints, now the door is open in chapter 19 that the saints may return with Christ, King of Kings and Lord of Lords. TWO OPEN DOORS tells us that there is indeed two appearing at Christ return, the first he comes in the clouds to receive the raptured saints, and the second when he returns with the saints to earth.

Now the Rider in verse 12 has eyes as flames of fire. He can easily see the sham and hypocrisy of men. These are the same eyes as seen in chapter 1 v 14. As king Christ has on his head the crowns of royalty. He also has on a special name which will only be exposed at the hour his return. Until then no one knows this name. Verse 13 we see that the Lord wears a vesture dipped in blood, a picture of the judgment he is bringing to earth. Non can doubt that he is the Lord Jesus Christ because he is called the WORD. John often called him by this name, in fact he was the only New Testament writer to use this title. John 1 v 1. verse 14 adds “ and the word was made flesh” He also called Christ the Word of life in 1st John 1 v 1. In this text John sees the word of God coming in judgment, he also observed a great host, all the armies of heaven coming with him upon white horses. Notice they come from heaven. They are not already present on earth, they are the saints who were raptured in chapter 4 v 1, the bride who made herself ready and who wore fine linen clean and white in verse 8 of this present study.

They are millions upon millions in numbers, they have avoided the tribulation hour and are returning with the king for a conflict at Armageddon. What a privilege to stand with him as he executed judgment on all the ungodly deeds and words spoken against him and of all the ungodly practices. The time of reaping has arrived. As Christ return to subjugate the earth dwellers, He does so with a sword verse 15 in his mouth. This sword is nothing less than the word of God. His word always smite men in their consciences and lies. This was exactly what happened to the officers who were seeking Jesus in the Garden Of Gethsemane, as soon as he said “ I am He” they went backward and fell to the ground. John 18 v 6.  Heb 4 v 12 “ the word of God is sharpen then any two edged sword”. Christ and his word alone will destroy the nations at Armageddon.

The armies of heaven only observe as he threads the wine press of the fierceness and wrath of  Almighty God. This moment fulfills the prediction of Daniel 2 v 34, which predicts the stone cut out without hands..” The ten nation Common Market Confederacy. Then this stone fills the whole earth with a new kingdom, never to be destroyed. Its leader the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Verses 17 &  18 “ and I saw an angel……” The devastating scene described in these verses is a result of  the battle of Armageddon chapter 16 v 16, fought in the valley of Megiddo and the valley of Jesophat , not Russia’s invasion of Israel Ezekiel 38 & 39. Russia made her move in the middle of the Tribulation.  The Antichrist came to power, made a false peace pact with the nations and then broke it in the middle of the seven years. Daniel 9 v 27. At this point Russia invaded the Holy Land. For she went up to the land of ……Ezekiel 38 v 11. Prior to the appearance of the Antichrist in chapter 13, the nation of Israel was not at rest or dwelling safely. The situation changed when the Antichrist came to power and took control and initiated his peace plan. Then all the world said Peace! Peace!  but it didn’t last.

1st Thes 5 v 3 “for when they said…..” Russia quickly took advantage of the opportunity and moved against Israel who is at rest dwelling safely, Moscow’s aggression however proved to be her demise, for she was destroyed by the hand of God, Ezekiel 39 v 1-3. The battle described in this present chapter occurs as God destroys the Antichrist and his “ten horn” empire. The following passages vividly portrays the terrible catastrophic judgment which occurs in preparation for and fulfillment of Armageddon. “ for behold in those days…….” Joel 3 v 1 –17. Verses 14-20 of chapter 14  and verses 17-21 of chapter 16 already studied also have to do with the battle of Armageddon. Thus we see that before the marriage supper of the lamb becomes a reality the “supper of the Great God occurs”, this event begins, as an angel summons all the fowls or vultures of heaven to gather together for a feast. Matt 24 v 28.  At this gathering they eat the flesh of deceased kings, mighty men, warriors, from every rank or possession of life. What a horrible nightmare as men suffers the consequences of their rebellion against God. Finally the one who made life so miserable on earth, who gave man the number 666, who would not let them buy or sell without the number of his name, who had millions of believers beheaded because they refused to accept his number, is judged by God himself.

Verses 19 –20 “ and I saw….” Two world leaders, one political, one religious, one posing as God, the other promoting him, now discover that their charade is over. They are cast alive into the lake of fire. Burning with brimstone. The final abode of all God haters and Christ rejecters for time and eternity. One thousand years later when Satan joins them chapter 20 v 10, they are still suffering torment day and night.

Verse 21 “ and a remnant …….”  The battle is ended, non is spared.
